Aerial Hoop, Silks and Pole Instructor
Our pole and aerial instructor Alison began ballet dancing when she was two and tap dancing when she was seven. She performed in several dance productions at the Woodville Halls in Gravesend with the Carol Ann School of Dance and has recently returned to ballet with The Bridge Academy of Performing Arts.
At secondary school, Alison studied Performing Arts, giving up both ballet and tap to concentrate on other aspects of performance.
Over the years, Alison has been part of several amateur theatre productions, including playing the Mum in a version of the play ‘East’ by Steven Berkoff and an Aladdin pantomime. Alison loves the theatre and the more abstract the production the better. She is inspired by DV8 Physical Theatre, she says, “I was totally blown away with their ‘Can We Afford This’ production in 2000.”
In 2014 Alison began pole dancing and was hooked instantly. She loves the strength side of pole and says it has given her so much confidence in herself. Six months later, Alison took an aerial hoop class which she loved even more. Her favourite thing is putting together combinations of hoop moves and choreographing routines. Alison took up aerial silks in 2016.
Alison was part of the Athena Fitness Circesque group performances in 2017, 2018 & 2019 and performed a solo hoop routine in 2018. She gained first place in the Kent regional of the Aerial Performance Championships Instructor Hoop category 2019 and the Open Professional Doubles category in 2020. In 2019 Alison attended a 4 day intensive Circus workshop at the Aircraft Circus Academy and has attended workshops with Chelsy Vaney and Hanne Coekelberghs.
